Wir sind verwandt mit allem, was lebt: Die Theologische Zoologie lehrt, das menschenzentrierte Weltbild zu überwinden. Die herkömmliche Sicht, dass allein für den Menschen die Welt geschaffen wurde, dass Tier und Natur lediglich eine äschöne Kulisse" darstellen, wird auch von Papst Franziskus in seiner 2015 veröffentlichten Enzyklika äLaudato siÖ" deutlich als äfehlgeleiteter Anthropozentrismus" benannt. Franziskus räumt ein, dass ein falsches Verständnis der biblischen Worte äMacht Euch die Erde untertan" zu dieser Weltsicht beigetragen haben könnte. Richtiger sei es, den Menschen als äverantwortlichen Verwalter" der Schöpfung zu verstehen. Es gibt keine theologische Legitimation für den Menschen, Tiere und Natur als äRessourcenlager" zu nutzen. Die Würde der Tiere und mit ihnen die gesamte natürliche Mit-Welt wahrzunehmen ist das zentrale Anliegen der Theologischen Zoologie. Für eine bedeutsame ...kologie fordert sie einen Wechsel des Blickwinkels vom Tier als einer vom Menschen abgetrennten äSache" hin zu einem mit dem Menschen verbundenen Mitgeschöpf, das eine wichtige Botschaft über die Schöpfung vermittelt, in deren Gesamtheit sich Gott ausdrückt. Das Projekt der Theologischen Zoologie versteht sich als interdisziplinär und interreligiös. Der Beitrag stellt das ITZ als Institut vor, das auf drei Standbeinen ruht: äWissenschaft und Forschung", äPädagogik und Katechese" sowie äProjekte und Kooperationen".

We are related to every living being: Theological Zoology teaches us to overcome a human-centric view of the world. The traditional view that our world has been created for mankind only, whereas animals and nature, in general, merely serve as a "beautiful backgroundÓ, has also been clearly criticized as "misguided anthropocentrismÓ by Pope Francis in his encyclical "Laudato siÖÓ, published in 2015. Francis concedes that a wrong understanding of the biblical appeal to man "to subdue the earthÓ might have led to this view of the world. "Instead, our ÔdominionÖ over the universe should be understood more properly in the sense of responsible stewardshipÓ (LS 116). There is no theological legitimacy at all for mankind to exploit animals and nature as mere resource pools. Perceiving the natural dignity of animals, as well as the importance of the entire world surrounding us as a connatural world (Mit-Welt), and not only as environment (Um-Welt), is the central concern of Theological Zoology. Ecology can only be effective, according to Theological Zoology, if there is a change in our point of view towards animals, away from the view of animals as "thingsÓ separated from man, and towards a realization that they are fellow creatures, closely connected with man, and communicating an important message: God expresses himself in the entire creation. Theological Zoology regards itself as an interdisciplinary and interreligious project. The article introduces an institute based on three pillars: "science and researchÓ, "pedagogics and catechesis,Ó as well as "projects and cooperationÓ.
